I have become a huge fan of the Blood type Diet, after I read the book. Since this diet is so comprehensive and since you need a lot of information in order to follow this diet, I have decided to put all the details on this page.
The blood type diet was invented by the the american Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo and published in the book Eat Right 4 Your Type in 1996. According to this diet, your blood type determines what food you should eat in order to satisfy the needs of your body. When you only eat food that is benificiary to your body, you can optimize your immunesystem, metabolism, digestion, and your general well-being. The diet is so much more than just a diet. It doesnt only give you a guide to your optimal indivudual diet, it e.g. also shows you the ideal type-specific excersice and handling of stress.
The 4 Blood Types
The four blood types are 0, A, B and AB. These blood types have a very different history and purpuse and thus a different genetic base. Blood type 0 is the oldest blood type, later type A developed, then B, and the most modern blood type is AB. The blood types have not developed further, so the blood type’s induvidual physical need have remained the same. In order to understand what is compatible to the different blood types, ýou must take a look at how and when they were developed.
Type 0
The first and oldest blood type is type 0. This blood type was developed at the time when humans were hunters and became the most dangerous predator at the top of the food chain. These people were mainly carnivores. This is also the optimal diet for people with the blood type 0 today. Their diet should contain large amounts of animal proteins. They have a robust digestive system, that is a high level of stomach acid to digest a larger quantity of meat. A person with type 0 should avoid milk and corn products. These food groups were not a part of the hunters’ natural diet, so your body reacts badly to it.

The blood type A was developed between 25 000 and 15 000 B.C. This new blood group was developed as a response to new enviromental conditions. People started to seddle down and they started the tendency of farming and agriculture. This was a radical change of diet and nutrition. People of blood type A were the first vegetarians, and this is also the optimal diet for the type A today. People with type A should eat a vegetable-rich diet, and should avoid meat. For people with type a milk and corn products are more digestible than for those of type 0.

Type B
Blood type B was developed between 10 000 and 15 000 B.C. As the people from the warm east Africa wandered to the cold highlands of Himalaye, the blood type changed as a result of the climate change. The blood type B is very similar and shares many charactaristics with blood type 0. You can say that blood type B is an evolusionary improvement of blood type 0. The optimal diet for people with blood type B is a combination of animal and vegetable food. Also milk products are beneficial for the blood type B.

Type AB
The blood type AB is the jungets blood type. It was developed between 500 B.C and 900 A.D when the blood group A and B was mixed. People with blood type AB share characteristics with both blood type A and B. A person with type AB reacts like type A on some food groups, while it reacts like type B on others. So the diet of type AB is very diverse. They should limit their comsumption of meat, but for people with type AB milk and corn products are relatively beneficial.

As you have read, each blood types react differntly to special kind of food groups. One food can be beneficial to a person with one blood type, while for a person with an other blood type it is like poison to the body. The reason for this is the chemical reaction that happens when you eat food containing protein lectins that are incompatible with your blood type antigen. That is, when you eat food with a specific lectin that does not fit to your blood type, your body sees it as a foreign material and tries to neutralize it. So some foods are beneficial, and can even work as medicine for your body, while others are neutral and even poisonos to your body.

I agree, that the blut type diet is so interesting! I´m AB, which is supposed to be quite rare. I cannot believe that I should avoid meat. So far meat worked for me fine and can´t imagine to turn a medium-rare steak down. But I will definitely try to eat more fruits, especially cherries.
Thank you for this interesting insight!
I am happy that you like the diet. What I like about it is, that you do not have to follow everything to the details. The book is just giving you advise and tells you how your body reacts to what you eat. So when you are AB and love steak, you dont have to totally avoid beef. Maybe just dont eat it every week.
I can really recommend this diet – even just as a small guidance to keep in the back of your mind.
